When a phone or laptop is beyond a screen or battery swap, most repairers tell you to buy a new one. We work on the circuit board itself — under a microscope, with hot air and micro soldering — so the fault gets fixed instead of the whole device getting replaced.
What board-level repair covers
- Device will not turn onPhone or laptop completely dead, with no sign of charging.
- Liquid damageCorrosion cleaned off the board and damaged components replaced.
- Charging IC faultsNot charging, charging only sometimes, or not recognised by a computer.
- No backlight or no imageThe device is still running — you just cannot see anything.
- Boot loopsPhone or laptop that restarts endlessly and never finishes starting.
- Laptop power circuitsDC jacks, power rails and charging circuits on laptop motherboards.
- Data off a dead phoneReviving a board far enough to get photos and contacts back.
- Connector and flex port workMicro soldering on torn pads, charge ports and screen connectors.
How long it takes
Phones — usually overnight
There are only so many iPhone and Samsung models, so we keep the common board components in stock. Most phone board repairs stay on the bench overnight and are ready the next day. A badly damaged board can take 2–3 days.
Computers — allow about a week
Laptop and desktop board components are model-specific and rarely interchangeable, so nearly all of them have to be sourced for the individual job. Plan on about a week rather than a couple of days.
This is not same-day work. The device is left with us. We assess the board first, then quote you the price and the likely timeframe before any work starts. Not every board can be saved — if yours cannot, we will tell you straight rather than let you spend money finding out.
What the assessment costs
Phones: no fix, no fee. If we cannot save the board, you pay nothing.
Computers: $30 assessment, credited in full towards the repair if you go ahead. You only pay it if you decide not to proceed — it covers the bench time it takes to find out what has actually failed.
Why it is worth asking
A board repair is often a fraction of the cost of a replacement device, and it is the only route when the data on the device matters more than the device itself. It is also the honest answer more often than the industry admits: plenty of “unrepairable” phones and laptops have one failed component on an otherwise healthy board.
Board-level work is done in our own workshop, for customers of both our stores. Drop the device at Berwick and collect it at Berwick — you only ever deal with one counter.
